"City On the Edge of Forever" gets my vote as the BEST episode of Star Trek. It was written by accomplished sci-fi author Harlan Ellison (You didn't see Isaac Asimov or Arthur C. Clarke writing screenplays for TV.) It is also a tribute to his perseverance against network morons: they didn't like the ending and objected to Kirk's final line: "Let's get the Hell outta here!"
It ran last night on ME TV, channel 23 on Time Warner. Interestingly, one scene was cut: When McCoy arrives, and encounters the vagrant who's stealing a quart of milk, and later passes out, the hobo steals a phaser from McCoy's belt, and, in the process of investigating it, vaporizes himself. I wonder why they cut that?
